On Monday 14 December,Zanshin Kinnegad will hold their last class of the year. Students from junior and senior classes will demonstrate kihon,kata,kumite and self-defence applications. All parents are welcome. Demo will begin at 7. Watch out for the annual Students vs Instructors Selection Box kumite challenge. This year, senseis Liam and Proinsias intend to win....!

Success in Portarlington!
We had a great day at the Zanshn Open in Portarlington on Saturday 14 November! We won a nice haul of medals, but what were really proud of was the good spirit and etiquette of all our members! We decamped to Supermacs in Edenderry to celebrate. Well done Stephen,Aoife,Shane,James,Brian,Orla, Robert, Ella,Luca,Liam, Cormac,Conor,Muireann and Louise! Many thanks to the parents who came to support us and to Peter Govan for helping Sensei Liam with the coaching. Well done to Senseis Keith and Paul for organizing a great event! We're not training on Monday November 16th, so we'll see you all on the 23rd.

Portarlington Tournament
We are leaving from Kinnegad GAA centre on the morning of Saturday 14 November at 8.15 AM. All students competing MUST have a white karate gi (suit) and a gumshield (if they intend to spar). Cost per event is €12 or €20 for 2 events. Please bring the money on the day if you have not already paid. Please bring a packed lunch and plenty of drinks. Zanshin Tournament in Portarlington
On Saturday 14 November 2015, Zanshin Karate-Do Midlands will hold our annual Tournament in Portarlington Community Centre, Portarlington Co. Laois. Juniors and adults may compete in Kata,Kumite (sparring) or both. Entry fee is €12 for one event, €20 for 2 events. There are divisions from under 8 to over 18, and each division is further divided into Beginners (white-blue) and Advanced (purple-black). Competitors will need a gumshield and mitts. All participating clubs must have their own insurance in place. For further details, contact a Zanshin instructor (contact details on About Us page). All competitors must pre-register by November 7th. Absolutely NO REGISTRATION on the day.

Super Seminar in Kinnegad
This September,Zanshin Karate-do Midlands (Kinnegad) are 5 years old! We've had a great time and hope to continue training in Karate for many years to come!
To celebrate our anniversary as a club,we're running a special class on Monday 7 September. Our friends in the Martial Arts who have helped us on our journey will he teaching! Class for juniors will run from 6.30-8.00 pm and for seniors from 8.00-9.30 pm. Cost per class €5.

Grading in Kinnegad
On Sunday 26th July students from Zanshin Karate Midlands graded under a panel of Senseis Ger Mccarthy,Liam Darcy,Proinsias O Fearghail, Ger Walsh,Keith Walsh;Paul Thackaberry and Ollie Henchy. Students from 9th to 1st kyu were put through their paces in Kihon,Kata and Kumite and we were VERY proud of all our students! Well done to all!

Grading and summer break
Zanshin Kinnegad are taking a break from training for the next 4 weeks. Training will resume on Monday 24 August,usual times(7-8 juniors,8-9.30 seniors) in Kinnegad GAA centre. There is a grading today at 2 pm in the GAA centre for those who are ready. Cost €15.

Seminar with Sensei Gerry McCarthy
On Saturday, 20th June, Zanshin Karate Midlands will host a seminar with Sensei Gerry McCarthy 4th dan Shotokan in our Kinnegad dojo. The seminar will run from 2-3 pm for colour belts and will focus on kata Heian Sandan. The session from 3-4.30 pm will be for purple belts up and will focus on the practice and applications from Jion kata.
Sensei McCarthy is a vastly experienced instructor who has trained in many martial arts besides Shotokan. He ias known for his technical approach to Karate, so this is a seminar not to be missed! Grading in Kinnegad
On Minday 6 February, Robert L'Estrange, Shauna Kavanagh and John Rogerson graded in Kinnegad dojo before Zanshin instructors Proinsias O Fearghail and Liam Darcy. They were tested in kihon, kata and kumite and did themselves proud! Well done, folks!

New shodans in Edenderry!
Zanshin Karate-Do Midlands would like to congratulate Adam Hanlon and Ben Carolan of Edenderry Shotokan Academy on passing their Shodan grading on Saturday. This is a big step in the life of any karareka. Adam and Ben have trained hard for this grade, in their own dojo and in Kinnegad. Congratulations to the lads, to Sensei Ger McCarthy, chief instructor in Edenderry and to senseis Sean Osborne and Marcus Flood for all their great work!
